Arizona Snowbowl ski resort is opening a new, four-person chairlift in its beginner area.

The lift, which will open next ski season, will feature the state’s first loading conveyor, which is like a moving sidewalk designed to make it easier for riders to get on the chairlift, the resort north of Flagstaff announced this week.

Instead of having to stand and hop into the chair as it approaches, a conveyor will move the rider along the loading zone until the chair smoothly scoops them up, possibly leading to fewer fall-on-your-butt moments.

The new Doppelmayr quad chairlift will replace the Hart Prairie Riblet double chairlift, which was installed in 1981.

Its four-person seat capacity will let families and groups ride the lift together, as well as cut wait times – it can lift up to 1,800 people per hour.

Construction will begin on the lift this month and it will open for the 2017-18 season.

Snowbowl currently is offering scenic chairlift rides and disc golf as part of its summer season. The winter ski season usually begins in November.
