The Arizona Science Center isn’t just for kids. See how they’re mixing fun, science and nightlife in downtown Phoenix.
Why should kids have all the fun? During Science with a Twist at the Arizona Science Center in downtown Phoenix, it’s the 21-and-over crowd’s time to shine.
Since the event began in summer 2016, Science with a Twist has gained word-of-mouth popularity with new themes every month like Supervillains, Speakeasy, Trek, Wars and Who II, and Harry Potter, according to a press release.
Guests can immerse themselves in fun activities and awe-inspiring science demonstrations. And after your mind is sufficiently blown by science, you can dance the night away to music from a DJ or grab an alcoholic beverage.
2/16: Gods and Gladiators Bacchanal
Party like a Roman with a Pompeii-inspired Bacchanal, a festival of Bacchus, the Greco-Roman god of wine, freedom, intoxication and ecstasy. The Pompeians loved their drinks, so unwind with wine or a specialty cocktail. You can also check out the center’s four levels and play bocci in the “Temple of Jupiter.” Try your hand at Roman Knuckles, too. Arrive in style with your best toga!
Details: 6-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. Arizona Science Center, 600 E. Washington St., Phoenix. $12. 602-716-2000, www.azscience.org.
“Pompeii: The Exhibition” is a blockbuster show running through May 28, bringing to life the ill-fated Italian city that was devastated in 79 A.D. by the explosion of Mount Vesuvius.
3/16: Luck O’ the Science
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day eve with smoking green beverages, activities that may lead to a pot o’ gold at the end of the rainbow, and demos with a wee bit of green science. Don’t forget to wear green or prepare to be pinched.
Details: 5-9 p.m. Friday, March 16. www.azscience.org.
4/20: DC vs. Marvel
Looking out for a hero? You’ll find plenty at this Science with a Twist. Try comic-inspired cocktails or see a Metallica laser show. Dress as your favorite Superhero or Supervillain. Which comic universe will trump the night? Bring a sidekick and find out.

5/4: Trek, Wars and Who II
The ultimate nerds and geeks will gather on this night. Grab a “Make It So” Margarita or Sonic Screwdriver at the Space Cantina, and catch the Grand Tour of the Empire in the Dorrance Planetarium. Dress up to show your support for your favorite fandoms and compete in the Jedi Quest Costume Contest. May the Force be with you.
Details: 6-10 p.m. Friday, May 4. azscience.org.
6/15: Science Is A Beach
There isn’t a beach in Arizona, but for one night there will be. Grab your shorts and tank tops, sip Sex on the Beach cocktails, watch a laser show and dance to summer beats with your crew.
7/20: Harry Potter Birthday Bash
Accio birthday party! Celebrate the Chosen One’s birthday by wearing your Hogwarts house colors with pride and conducting magical experiments. Share a butterbeer with your mates and take a whack at a Dementor piñata. Expecto Patronum!
8/17: Murder Mystery, Once Upon A Time
Come take a bite out of this murder mystery party as the Evil Queen welcomes you to a night of enchantment. The nightmare begins when the clock bell rings 7 p.m. and one of its magical guests is found dead.
All magical guests, including Goldi, Snow, Hook, Mad Hatter, claim to be innocent. But not everyone has a happy ending. Search for clues around the center and stop the culprit before the night is over.
