A mid-level drug dealer was found dead in his prison cell after an apparent suicide, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections.

James Krauss, 42, was three years into a nine-year sentence for possessing dangerous drugs with the intent to sell.

Krauss died “from an apparent act of self-harm” Thursday at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Tucson, according to an ADC statement.

“Staff observed him unresponsive in his assigned housing location and began performing life-saving measures until paramedics arrived,” the statement said.

Krauss could not be revived.

His death is being investigated by the corrections department in consultation with the medical examiner, the statement said.
