It’s that time of year when Arizona high school fall sports teams  from the Valley find ways to escape the heat.

They find cooler, scenic getaways for camps.

Here are summer camp scenes. More will be added as teams hit camps.

Coach Dustin Johnson’s 46 players (the most the team has ever taken to camp) will wrap up their camp on Friday. It started on Monday in Williams.

“This is the closest and all-around most driven group I’ve ever coached,” Johnson said. “We’ve done the most competitive drills we have done and  they’ve answered the call.”

The Knights headed to Heber on Monday for a weeklong camp.

Coach Eddy Zubey said that 120 players and 15 coaches are on the trip that wraps up Saturday. And it’s been all work.

“Our camp has been a success so far,” Zubey said Thursday morning. “The players are working their tails off  with four practices a day. We are working on our execution of our offensive and defensive schemes.

“We are also tightening our bonds with each other as a team. I’m excited to see us continue on this journey when we get back down the hill and put pads on.”

Glendale Cactus football

The Cobras packed up and headed north this week to Heber working out on a middle school field. Their motto is, “Finish the show.”

Here are some of their camp scenes:

The players and coaches hit the  West Coast, staying this week at Cal Lutheran, and finding some time for the beach.

They even got up before 5 a.m. for some hill work.

And, of course, what’s a good camp without being around a camp fire at night, roasting marshmallows and sharing stories.

Surprise Valley Vista cross country

Runners headed to Flagstaff  last month for some high-altitude, steep climb runs.
