The Arizona Diamondbacks entered the shortened 2020 MLB season with high expectations and postseason aspirations.
They did not end the season that way.
Arizona’s season ended Sunday with an NL West worst 25-35 record and a lot of questions surrounding the team.
MLB writers were not kind to the team in their final regular season MLB power rankings.
How does the future look for the franchise?
Check out what they are saying about the organization heading into the offseason.
Bleacher Report: Diamondbacks finish season ranked No. 22
Joel Reuter writes: “Very little went according to plan for a D-backs team with legitimate postseason aspirations. The offense ranked near the bottom in home runs (58, 29th) and OPS (.704, 22nd), and the pitching staff was a mess behind breakout ace Zac Gallen (12 GS, 2.75 ERA, 82 K, 72 IP). Still, a strong farm system and plenty of payroll flexibility make them a team to watch.”

Matt Snyder writes: “Madison Bumgarner got the win on Sunday. It was his first and only victory of the season.”

ESPN: Diamondbacks finish as No. 27 team in baseball
It writes: “It’s been a mess of a season for the Diamondbacks, who entered with high expectations after a winning campaign in 2019. Right-hander Zac Gallen has been the one player who has lived up to those expectations. He’s just 2-2, but that’s not his fault, as he has a 3.00 ERA and has allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of 11 starts.”
Baseball America: Diamondbacks end up ranked No. 22
Kyle Glaser writes: “The D-backs went 10-5 to close out the season, but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome the horrendous 2-18 stretch that preceded it. RHP Zac Gallen is a keeper, but with RHP Luke Weaver (1-9, 6.59) and LHP Madison Bumgarner (0-4, 7.36) struggling, the D-backs are going to have get creative to find pitching with four of their top five pitching prospects yet to pitch above low Class A.”
USA TODAY Sports: Diamondbacks ranked No. 27 to end season
Jesse Yomtov writes: “Pavin Smith, Arizona’s 2017 first-round pick, went 8-for-26 to start his career.”
NBC Sports: Diamondbacks finish as No. 27 team in MLB
Tim Stebbins writes: “The rotation has had some problems this season but has potential going into 2021. If Madison Bumgarner bounces back (7.36 ERA), he, Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly make up a nice trio. Pavin Smith, their 2017 first-round pick, has gotten off to a nice start at the dish.”

CBS Sports: Diamondbacks ranked last in NL West, earn an ‘F’ grade for season
Danny Vietti writes: “They might have been the most disappointing team in 2020. Coming off a strong 2019 campaign, the club was expected to battle with the Dodgers for the NL West crown. That did not happen by any stretch. The D-Backs now find themselves on the hook for another four years of an aging Madison Bumgarner.”
