ST. LOUIS – The Coyotes welcomed a new face to practice Sunday as forward Clayton Keller joined the team in St. Louis after signing a three-year, entry-level contract just a day after his college season with Boston University ended.

The Terriers were eliminated from the NCAA tournament Saturday night by Minnesota-Duluth in the West Regional final.

“We are extremely pleased to sign Clayton to an entry level contract,” General Manager John Chayka said in a statement released by the team. “Clayton is a highly skilled, dynamic forward. He is a strong skater who has a powerful shot and great hockey sense. We are excited to have him join our team and finish the regular season with the Coyotes.”

Keller, who was drafted seventh overall by the Coyotes last summer, finished his freshman season at Boston University as the team’s leading scorer with 21 goals and 45 points in 31 games. He registered at least one point in 28 of those 31 games, had 15 multi-point efforts and tied for seventh in all of college hockey with a 1.45 points-per-game average.

The 18-year-old Keller also played in the 2017 World Junior Championship in earlier this year, helping to the United States win gold after racking up the third-most points in the tournament and leading the U.S. in scoring with 11 points in seven games.

Last season, the Illinois native tallied 107 points in 62 games with the U.S. National Team Development Program. His career point total of 130 is the second-most all-time for the under-18 team, and he’s the program’s all-time assists leader with 84. team.
