The Coyotes stayed relatively quiet at the NHL trade deadline on Monday, citing faith in their current roster to break a seven-year playoff drought.

Save for a minor-league transaction that saw the Coyotes add forward Markus Hannikainen from the Columbus organization for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2020, the Coyotes stood pat as teams around them executed a flurry of transactions.

The Coyotes, of course, made their major move back in December when they acquired winger Taylor Hall from the New Jersey Devils. Hall has registered 25 points (9 goals, 16 points) in 30 games since being traded to Arizona.

John Chayka, Coyotes president of hockey operations and general manager spoke to reporters after the 1 p.m. deadline passed and said that despite being “close” on a few potential deals he ultimately decided it wasn’t worth making wholesale changes to the active lineup.

The Coyotes will enter Tuesday’s game against the Florida Panthers occupying the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Kuemper could play Tuesday

Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet said goaltender Darcy Kuemper could start Tuesday’s game against the Panthers.

Kuemper, who has been sidelined with a lower-body injury since Dec. 19, stopped 26 of 28 shots in a rehab start with the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate in Tucson on Saturday.

Kuemper had been slated to return to game action prior to a game on Feb. 10 against the Montreal Canadiens, but suffered a setback in morning skate.

Chychrun week-to-week

Chayka termed Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun as “week-to-week” with a lower-body injury.

Chychrun, who has missed the past two games, underwent scans and is expected to miss at least the next few games, Tocchet said.
