Adin Hill has apparently seen enough time on the ice in net, with results the team is satisfied with, for the Arizona Coyotes to retain his services.
The 24-year-old goaltender was signed to a one-year, one-way contract, the team announced on Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Hill, from Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, was 2-4-3 in nine starts in goal last season. He won two of his first four games as the starter in place of injured No. 1 and No. 2 goalies Darcy Kuemper and Antti Raanta, with one of those being an overtime shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 12 of this year.
Hill had 31 saves in that game, and posted a season high 38 in a Feb. 11 loss at Toronto.
Hill has appeared in 30 games with 24 starts the past three seasons for the Coyotes. His best season as terms of wins was 2018-19, when he went 7-5-0 in 13 appearances.
Hill’s goals-against average was 2.62 last season, the best of his career. With him returning for 2020-21, the Coyotes have experience, depth and familiarity in net should they decide they have enough flexibility to consider a trade this offseason.
Hill has spent extensive time with the AHL Tucson Roadrunners the past three seasons, including 20 games last season in which he had a 15-5-0 record with a 2.40 goals-against average. A third-round pick in 2015, Hill had identical save percentages in both the NHL and AHL Tucson last season, 91.8.
