The Arizona Coyotes continued the remake of their hockey operations department Friday with the addition of Ryan Jankowski as associate director of amateur scouting.
Jankowski, a Calgary native, joins special assistant to the general manager Brian Daccord and director of amateur scouting Darryl Plandowski as part of general manager Bill Armstrong’s staff. Unlike Armstrong and Plandowski, Jankowski will be able to take part in the Coyotes’ draft preparations leading up to the two days of the NHL Draft October 6 and 7.
Jankowski had been the Buffalo Sabres’ director of amateur scouting the past two seasons, running the team’s 2018 and 2019 drafts. Before that, he was head scout and director of player personnel for Hockey Canada, a role in which he led the evaluation and selection of players for the country’s junior national team and under-18 and under-17 national teams.

The Sabres, in a mass overhaul in June, parted ways with several members of their front office, scouting staff and AHL coaches, and Jankowski was included in that group.
Jankowski has worked for two other NHL teams. He was an amateur scout for the Montreal Canadiens from 2010 to 2013, and prior to that, four of his seven seasons with the New York Islanders were spent as assistant general manager.
“We are excited to have Ryan join Darryl Plandowski to help lead our amateur scouting department,” Armstrong said in a statement from the team. “Ryan brings a wealth of hockey experience and knowledge to our organization and he will be a tremendous asset for us.”
