A recently released ranking of NFL team uniforms for the 2021 season has given Arizona Cardinals fans desperate for a new look for their team some more fodder.

That’s because the Cardinals have the worst uniforms in the NFL, according to the ranking, from USA TODAY Sports’ Nate Davis.

Davis wrote of Arizona’s look, which he ranked No. 32 among the NFL’s 32 teams: “QB Kyler Murray and, apparently, an overwhelming faction of the fan base want an overhaul. They’re right, it’s long overdue. Piping + panels = putrid. What was wrong with the Pat Tillman era, featuring Arizona’s state flag on simpler white jerseys anyway?”

Davis hasn’t been a fan of the Cardinals’ uniform for a while.

He ranked them No. 31 last season.

His comment in 2020: “Remember when the Bills were using all that piping and heavy color swatching over the shoulders a decade ago? You would’ve thought no one would ever try to replicate that look. Alas … What was wrong with the Pat Tillman era, featuring Arizona’s state flag on the simpler white jerseys?”

In 2019, Davis had the Cardinals’ uniforms ranked No. 30 in the league.

His comment them?

“They’ve contracted Buffalo syndrome, dabbling way too much,” Davis wrote. “Do yourself a favor, Cards, and go back to the Pat Tillman editions featuring the state flag on the shoulders.”

Davis isn’t alone among writers in his disdain for the Cardinals’ uniforms.

Uni Watch’s Paul Lukas also ranked the Cardinals’ uniforms last in the NFL last season.

He wrote: “What a disaster. The Cardinals start with a very old-school helmet look — plain white shell, basic logo, gray facemask — and pair it with newfangled elements like those clownish jersey sleeves and the league’s worst pants striping. It’s a painfully bad clash of old-school and new-school, and it all looks even worse when they break out the black alternates. Blow it up and start over.”

The Sporting News had the Cardinals’ uniform No. 30 in the NFL in 2020.

Tadd Haislop wrote: “These uniforms were cool when they debuted almost 15 years ago. Now they’re just outdated and, frankly, ugly. The only solid look the Cardinals have these days are their black jerseys with the continuous black stripe extending down to their white pants. The all-whites aren’t terrible thanks to the mainstay that is the franchise’s classic white helmet. That helmet could stay in a redesign, and a red facemask, as opposed to gray, would look great with the iconic logo. The rest of the uniform, though, needs a total makeover. The black trimming needs to go, as do the strange armpit stripes. For some teams, simple is good, and the Cardinals are one of those teams.”

NFL Spin Zone also put Arizona’s look at No. 30 last season.

Randy Gurzi wrote: “The Cardinals made a big change in 2005 to the uniforms we know now. They changed to a more fierce-looking Cardinal for the logo and went crazy with the shoulder stripes. They added a black alternate in 2005 which looks better than the red but considering they’re Cardinals, that shouldn’t be the case. It’s well past time for another re-boot and trying to look to the past for guidance wouldn’t be the worst idea for them.”

The Cardinals haven’t unveiled a new primary look since 2005.
