LOS ANGELES – Right-hander Archie Bradley has been, by just about any measure, the Diamondbacks’ best reliever. In 6 2/3 innings, he has yet to allow a run, with two walks and 10 strikeouts, and he’s exhibited arguably the most dominant stuff of anyone in the bullpen, with a fastball in the mid-to-upper 90s.

And yet of the three games in which he’s appeared, Bradley has twice entered with the score somewhat out of hand, once when the Diamondbacks were down six runs, the next time when they were behind by five.

Shouldn’t the Diamondbacks be trying to get their best reliever in more games in which they have a better chance of winning?

Asked about Bradley’s usage on Friday, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo at first said he plans to keep him in a long-relief role because he’s still stretched out from working mostly as a starter during spring training.

“It’s nice to have that luxury out of the bullpen, and not every bullpen has that,” Lovullo said. “We’re going to keep him in that mindset.”

But Lovullo later seemed to acknowledge he might be thinking about a newer, higher-leverage role.

“We may change the inning based on what he’s doing,” Lovullo said. “We’re very well aware of what you’re saying. We know he’s had some quality outings and we want that to continue. It’s just going to be in any format possible to help us win a moment.”

In the one outing in which he entered with the Diamondbacks ahead, Bradley turned in a game-saving performance. He came on with two on, none out and the Diamondbacks ahead by two runs in the seventh inning. He not only escaped that jam without allowing a run to score, he also worked a scoreless eighth inning before handing off to closer Fernando Rodney.

Sunday’s game

Diamondbacks at Dodgers

When: 1:10 p.m.

Where: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles.

Pitchers: Diamondbacks RHP Taijuan Walker (1-1, 4.91) vs. Dodgers LHP Rich Hill (1-0, 1.80).

TV/Radio: FSAZ/KMVP-FM (98.7), KHOV-FM (105.1).

Walker gave up three runs (two earned) in five-plus innings against the Giants on Monday, with all of the runs scoring on one play in the fourth inning on which Walker and catcher Jeff Mathis were charged with throwing errors. … Walker’s first start was only so-so as well; he gave up four runs in six innings against the Giants at Chase Field. … He’s only faced the Dodgers once in his career, in 2015, in an outing in which he gave up five runs in four innings at Dodger Stadium. … Hill gave up one run in five innings in his first start of the year, then missed his second one due to a blister issue. The plan is for him to come off the disabled list to start on Sunday. … Hill, whom the Dodgers acquired from Oakland at the trade deadline last year, re-signed in December for three years and $48 million. … He faced the Diamondbacks once last season, giving up four runs in 5 1/3 innings in a start at Chase Field.
