Phoenix Xavier Prep announced Wednesday in a release that it has a new swimming team head coach in Glen Coy.

He will replace Mark Rankin, who was in that role for three years at the all-girls school.

“Glen Coy, with his experience and knowledge of swimming, will continue the excellence that has been associated with the Xavier Swim Program since 1973,” Xavier Prep Athletic Director Sister Lynn Winsor said in the release. “In the past 48 years, Xavier has won 28 state titles, six state runners-up, and 31 regional/sectional titles. I am sure Mr. Coy will continue the tradition of building a strong team and enhancing camaraderie between the members.”

Rankin led the Gators to three consecutive Division I championship runner-up finishes since 2018. He is leaving to support and watch his daughter Mia Rankin, one of The Republic’s 2020 senior All-Arizona girls swimming/diving selections, at meets when she begins her freshman season this fall as a member of the Ohio State women’s swimming team.

Coy’s resume consists of him being a current coach at the Rio Swim Club in Gilbert. He has also been the swim coach at Mesa Mountain View since 1999, and at Mesa Aquatics and Desert Thunder Aquatics Club.

Coy has also been named Arizona State High School Swim Coach of the Year six times.
