The Cardinals have been interested in the possibility of adding veteran cornerback Prince Amukamara to the roster since spring and on Tuesday, they finally managed to do it.

The team announced it has signed Amukamara, the former Glendale Apollo High standout, to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals released wide receiver Jaron Brown from the practice squad.

Amukamara, 31, has spent nine seasons in the NFL and has appeared in 113 career games (99 starts) with the Giants (2011-15), Jaguars (2016) and Bears (2017-19). He has 10 interceptions, 477 tackles, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 78 passes defensed.

A first-round pick of the Giants in 2011 out of Nebraska, Amukamara started 42 games the past three seasons with the Bears and had three interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He signed with the Raiders this past May and was released by Las Vegas on Aug. 31.

“He’s kind of a hometown kid that could potentially be a guy that could help us,” Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim told Arizona Sports 98.7-FM this past Friday. “… He has a history of playing some good football in New York and Chicago and we liked what we saw on tape.”
