Former Arizona State wrestlers Anthony Valencia and Tanner Hall finished second Sunday in their freestyle divisions at USA Wrestling Senior Nationals.
Both are now competing for Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club and training in Tempe.
Top-seeded Logan Massa of Cliff Keen Wrestling Club won by technical fall 13-2 over No. 3 seed Valencia in the 74-kilogram final in Coralville, Iowa.
At heavyweight (125 kg), Junior World champion Mason Parris of Cliff Keen WC won by technical fall 12-2 over Hall.
Forrest Molinari wins at USA Wrestling Senior Nationals
Forrest Molinari, who trains at Sunkist Kids Regional Training Center in Tempe, won the 68-kilogram (149 pounds) women’s division at USA Wrestling Senior Nationals on Saturday.
Molinari, 25, pinned Skylar Grote of New York Athletic Club in 4:20 in the final in Coralville, Iowa. She also won two round robin matches by fall.
Molinari is ranked No. 7 in the world at 65 kg and a contender for the Tokyo Olympics.
Also Saturday in men’s freestyle, former Arizona State wrestlers Anthony Valencia and Tanner Hall advanced to Senior Nationals finals at 74 kg and heavyweight (125 kg). Both are continuing to train in Tempe at the Sunkist Kids RTC.
Valencia edged Evan Wick of Titan Mercury Wrestling Club 10-8 in his semifinal. He also had close matches in the quarterfinals, 13-9 over Hayden Hidlay of Titan Mercury, and round of 16, 16-13 over Elroy Perkins of Gopher Wrestling Club after opening with a 10-0 decision.
Hall edged Dominique Bradley of Sunkist Kids 3-2 in his semifinal. He pinned Demertius Thomas of Pittsburgh Wrestling Club in 5:25 in the quarterfinals and AJ Nevills of Titan Mercury in 4:19 in the round of 16.
ASU’s Cohlton Schultz repeats as USA Wrestling Senior Nationals champion
Arizona State redshirt freshman Cohlton Schultz repeated as Greco-Roman heavyweight champion at USA Wrestling Senior Nationals.
No. 1-seeded Schultz, representing Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club, won 4-2 Friday over No. 2 seed West Cathcart of New York Athletic Club in the 130-kilogram final in Coralville, Iowa.
Cathcart had Schultz on his back early in the match but could not make a 2-1 lead hold up against the 20-year-old, who has yet to make his ASU debut.
Schultz won his first two matches 10-1 and 5-0 then edged No. 5 seed Tanner Farmer 4-3 in the semifinals.
In the women’s 57 kg division, No. 1 seed Alli Ragan of Sunkist Kids, who trains in Tempe, was pinned by Xochitl Mota-Pettis in the first period of their quarterfinal.
Mora-Pettis reached the final and led 8-6 over No. 2 seed Lauren Louive before being pinned late in the match.
