Early voting is just getting underway in the Nov. 3 runoff race to lead the city of more than 250,000 people that plays an outsized role in Arizona tourism, and continues to grow its employment base.
Scottsdale was guaranteed a change as Jim Lane hit the city’s three-term limit after 12 years as mayor. Voters hit home the push for change when they rejected two City Council incumbents running for mayor in the August primary.
Ortega and Borowsky were the top two vote-getters among five candidates.
Both previously served one term on the City Council. Ortega served from 2000 to 2004 and Borowsky served from 2009 to 2013. Development issues they faced during their tenures continue to resonate. Both are critical of the current council’s decisions related to development.
