A professional tree trimmer died after getting trapped under palm fronds Tuesday morning in Phoenix.
Firefighters were dispatched around 10 a.m. to a home near Indianola Avenue and 18th Street for reports of a tree trimmer stuck half way up a palm tree, according to Capt. Rob McDade, a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman.
Crews arrived and found a man, who has not been identified, trapped underneath the weight of the palm fronds.
The tree was in the “backyard of a home that hired the individual,” McDade said.
Technical rescue team members quickly tried to free the man from the tree, but McDade said he was “beyond any resuscitative efforts once he was rescued” from approximately 20 feet up from the ground.
The man was pronounced dead at the location, according to McDade.
Phoenix police will lead the death investigation.
