There will be no shortage of big-time college football recruits at Scottsdale Saguaro on Friday night when Scottsdale Chaparral travels to take on the rival Sabercats in The Arizona Republic‘s Week 1 Game of the Week.

Power 5 colleges coaches have been lining up for some of these guys who will display their talents. Several of them have already committed.

Let’s take a look at the top recruits from both teams. (Saguaro would have more than the 10 mentioned here, but a few transfers will have to sit out the first four games).

Saguaro Sabercats

– Quintin Somerville, DE, Sr.: Committed to Michigan. One of the best defensive ends in the country, Somerville is a tough, physical, athletic rush end who has a non-stop motor. Will make plays all of the field.

– Denzel Burke, WR/CB, Sr.: Committed to Ohio State. He’ll be playing cornerback for the Buckeyes in the Big 10, but you’ll also see him make plays this year for the Sabercats on offense at receiver and in the backfield. Ranked as the No. 1 Athlete by The Arizona Republic for the 2020 season.

– Bram Walden, OL, Sr.: Committed to Oregon. No weaknesses in his game. Strong, great leverage, can get down field to maintain blocks. Leader on and off the field. Commands the locker room.

– Darrion Dalton, DL, Sr.: Committed to San Diego State. Never stops working, he has turned himself into a top defensive lineman who can move from tackle to end. Versatile. San Diego State saw his work ethic and huge potential.

– Alani Ma’afu, DT, Sr.: Committed to Northern Arizona. Strong and powerful and athletic, he might have been the best Arizona recruit that NAU coach Chris Ball was able to get a commitment from. Don’t underestimate this kid’s heart. Big-time defensive tackle.

– Tristan Monday, DE, Jr.: He has Power 5 colleges from all over the nation wanting him. Explosive rush end who came through big in the Open Division playoffs last year.

– Javen Jacobs, Athlete, Jr.: A three-star 247Sports recruit in the junior class, he has offers from Arizona State, Idaho and New Mexico. Plays several positions well on both sides of the ball. Will get more opportunities on offense this year.

– Parker Brailsford, OL, Jr.: This offensive guard’s recruiting really picked up in the spring and summer with offers from Arizona, Colorado, Michigan State, USC and New Mexico. Huge wingspan. Athletic.

– Xander Werner, Athlete, Sr.: He can play quarterback, tight end, outside linebacker, H-back. He has nine Division I offers, including New Mexico, New Mexico State and Hawaii.

– Ridge Docekal, QB, Jr.: This prostyle quarterback has the size, confidence and arm strength to make it in Division I college football. He is rated as a three-star in the 2022 class by 247Sports.

Chaparral Firebirds

– Anthony Lucas, DL, Jr.: He’s a man-child, who is rated by The Arizona Republic as the No. 2 prospect in the state in the 2022 class. He is a four-star in the 247Sports Composite list. A 6-foot-5, 285 pounds, he is a freak athlete who also excels in baseball and basketball. His 20 major college offers includes nine Pac-12 schools, Auburn, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida State, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Iowa State, Nebraska. He may be seen more this year on offense at tackle, but he mostly will be moving along the defensive front, making plays.

– Brayten Silbor, QB, Jr.: Extremely underrated. No offers. But he’ll get plenty after this season if not during the first four games. He’s a lot like former Desert Mountain QB Kedon Slovis. Poised. Nothing rattles him. Will take shots down field with big throws.

– Jared Williams, RB, Sr.: Maybe the state’s most underrated running back, he has added size, power and speed this season. He’ll break tackles at the line of scrimmage and make people miss.

– Jack Whitten, DB, Sr.: A cornerback, he has committed to playing at Ivy League Brown. Great instincts, and will hit.

– Mason Osborn, OL, Sr.: At 6-5, 305 pounds, he is ready to break out big this season. He should have several Division I offers by season’s end. Great feet and balance.

– Max Minor, WR, Sr.: He is a 3-star recruit by 247Sports. He is 6-4, 190, great length. Needs a big season to convince colleges he can play Division I football.

– Lukas Garvey, TE, Jr.: He is 6-4, 230 and just scratching the surface. Watch for big things from him that will generate offers. Good hands. Will make tough catches in traffic.
