The ASU basketball hasn’t been ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll for over 10 years.

According to early preseason rankings for the 2020-21 college basketball season, that skid could be ending.

Several early polls have the Sun Devils in their preseason Top 25 rankings for the upcoming season and several of them have Bobby Hurley’s team a lot higher.

Arizona State hasn’t been ranked in the AP preseason Top 25 since before the 2008-09 season.

NCAA.com’s Andy Katz has ASU ranked No. 14 in his poll, the highest Pac-12 team in his rankings.

He wrote: “The Sun Devils are my pick to win the Pac-12 after the return of Remy Martin, Alonzo Verge Jr., and the impact of big-time recruit Josh Christopher. Bobby Hurley should have a squad that will be chased from the outset.”

Stadium.com’s Jeff Goodman has Arizona State at No. 13 in his rankings.

College basketball insider Jon Rothstein puts the Sun Devils at No. 14.

The Sun Devils have received a boost from the return of seniors Remy Martin and Alonzo Verge Jr., who had initially tested the waters for the NBA.

The team has added some transfers who are expected to have a big impact on the future of the team and had one of the top recruiting classes in the country, led by guards Josh Christopher and  Marcus Bagley.

NBC Sports ranked ASU No. 24 in the country before Martin, a favorite for Pac-12 and National Player of the Year awards, announced his return to school.

CBS Sports put Hurley’s squad at No. 25.

The Sun Devils come in at No. 24 in Blue Ribbon’s College Basketball Yearbook Preseason Top 25.

Katz raved about the Sun Devils’ chances this season in a podcast earlier this month.

“One of the better scorers obviously in the country and in the Pac-12,” Katz said of Martin. “Can distribute the ball, makes money shots. With (senior guard Alonzo) Verge back at Arizona State and one of the best recruiting classes in the country, this Arizona State team has a legitimate shot not just to win the Pac-12 but be a team that makes a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.”

The Sun Devils went 20-11 overall and 11-7 in the Pac-12 last season and were in line to go to their third straight NCAA Tournament before the coronavirus pandemic forced its cancellation.

What can the team accomplish in 2020-21 with Martin, Christopher and others in the fold?
