The Arizona Cardinals have gained some new fans after their impressive 2-0 start to the season.

But former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson is apparently not among them.

Johnson, now an ESPN analyst, evidently isn’t impressed with Arizona after the team’s wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Washington.

On Tuesday, he questioned whether the team is built to make a run in the NFL on his ESPN radio show, the Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin Show.

During a segment running down the 11 unbeaten teams in the NFL and whether they are “real or not real,” Johnson emphatically put the Cardinals in the “not real” category.

“No, they are not,” Johnson said. “They are a 6-7 game win type team, even though they got two under their belt already. I like the fact that their offense is high octane, explosive, but when you look at the time of possession on this team, it certainly makes me scratch my head. I like Kyler Murray within this system. OK, I like what he does within the system. Long term I don’t think the Arizona Cardinals are made for the NFL, to make a run, because when you start running up against the Rams and Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey against DeAndre Hopkins and you take that weapon away or you start running up against Russell Wilson and Seattle or some of these other teams that you’ve got to face that have a little more umph on the defensive side of the ball, we’ll certainly see. Now, it took Kyler Murray to the end of that game against the San Francisco 49ers to pull a Houdini act to score a touchdown for them to win. In Week 1. And then they play Washington. Stop man, stop.”

Former NBA player Jay Williams did not agree with Johnson’s take, however, labeling Arizona in the “real” category.

“They are telling me we need to go to break, or I would retort” Williams said on the show, in response to Johnson’s take on the Cardinals. “The Lions, at the Panthers, at the Jets. They will be 5-0. And then we will be seeing if they are real or not, Keyshawn.”

Johnson then ended the segment with this response, appearing to predict a Cardinals’ loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 3.

“The Lions, you never know, Matt Patricia might pull a rabbit out of a hat,” Johnson said. “You never know.”

The Cardinals were the last of the 11 unbeaten NFL teams discussed in the segment.

Johnson and Williams agreed on all the other teams, putting the Las Vegas Raiders, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks in the “real” category.

They also agreed on the Chicago Bears, putting them in the “not real” category.

Arizona opened the season with a big win over the 49ers, the defending NFC champions, in San Francisco. The team then beat Washington at home.

It hosts the Lions in Week 3 before facing the Carolina Panthers on the road in Week 4 and the New York Jets on the road in Week 5.

The Lions, Panthers and Jets are currently a combined 0-6 on the season.

In several recent NFL power rankings, NFL writers have raved about the Cardinals’ start to the season with some of them having the team ranked as high as No. 7 in the NFL.

Bleacher Report wrote this of Arizona’s start: “The Arizona Cardinals might be legit. For the second time in as many weeks, the Cardinals took care of business, racing out to a 20-0 lead and holding off the Washington Football Team in their home opener. Quarterback Kyler Murray was exceptional, passing for 286 yards, rushing for 67 more and accounting for three total touchdowns. Defensively, the Redbirds allowed only 316 total yards, forced a pair of turnovers and sacked Dwayne Haskins four times. With three straight games on tap against teams who are a combined 0-6 (vs. Lions, at Panthers, at Jets), the Cardinals could well roll into their Week 6 Monday nighter against the Dallas Cowboys undefeated. After that comes the biggest test to date: a home date with Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.”
