If the MLB postseason began today the Arizona Diamondbacks would be in it.

Let that sink in for a second.

We’re a little more than a quarter of the way through the MLB season, so it’s early (some perspective: the Minnesota Vikings were 4-0 at this point of the 2016 NFL season), but it’s still worth noting that at 26-19, Arizona would be a Wild Card team in the MLB Playoffs.

If the postseason began today, the Diamondbacks would square off against the Los Angeles Dodgers (also 26-19) in a one-game playoff to advance to the NLDS.

The Rockies, at 28-17, would also be in the playoffs as the NL West champion, giving that division three of the five NL playoff representatives.

HOW DID IT CHANGE?: Previous MLB power rankings

The Nationals (26-17) would be in the postseason as the NL East champion if the playoffs began today. The Brewers (25-19) would be in as the NL Central champ.

The Cubs (22-20) and Cardinals (22-19) would be among the teams not in the playoffs, if the postseason began today.

What they’re saying about the Diamondbacks in MLB power rankings now:

Bleacher Report: Diamondbacks up five to No. 6

Joel Reuter writes: “The Diamondbacks and Brewers have been two of the league’s biggest early surprises, checking in at No. 6 and No. 9 in this week’s rankings, respectively. They’ll meet for the first time this season for a four-game series in Milwaukee this weekend.”

heavy.com: Diamondbacks up seven to No. 3

It writes: “After losing to the Pirates, the Diamondbacks had a great week winning their next four games. The Diamondbacks swept the Mets then won the opening game in San Diego. Arizona is in a challenging situation. They keep winning games but are in one of the most competitive divisions in baseball. In addition to the Diamondbacks, the Dodgers and Rockies are also playing well making those in-division series even more important down the road. Arizona is getting solid hitting across the board. Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt combined for 21 home runs. Arizona will host the White Sox then head to Milwaukee for a four-game series against a red-hot Brewers team.”

ESPN.com: Diamondbacks up one to No. 10

Christina Kahrl writes: “If you thought A.J. Pollock ‘s latest injury would immediately stop the D-backs, guess again. They’ve won five of six since then, with players beyond stars Zack Greinke and Paul Goldschmidt helping pick up the slack. Zack Godley has been excellent since he took the injured Shelby Miller’s place in the rotation, and Jake Lamb led the way with four homers to power the first Pollock-free week.”

CBS Sports: Diamondbacks up six to No. 8

Matt Snyder writes: “Fernando Rodney is 10 for 12 in save chances with an 8.59 ERA. In my best Cousin Eddie voice: “I don’t know.”

SALARIES: What Diamondbacks players will make this season

fansided.com: Diamondbacks up two to No. 9

Joshua Sadlock writes: “The Diamondbacks are the latest team to beat up on the floundering Mets and Pirates, and their strong week has them back in second place in the NL West. Whether or not their pitching staff behind a resurgent Zack Greinke can be consistently good enough to contend remains to be seen.”

Mike Harrington writes: “Pair of walkoff wins highlighted three-game sweep of free-falling Mets.”

David Hill writes: “Fernando Rodney is always going to be an adventure at closer, but he looks to have righted the ship this month. So far in May, he has yet to give up a run, while allowing just three baserunners in 5.2 innings. He bought himself a little more time in the closer role with that performance.”

thescore.com: Diamondbacks up five to No. 5

It writes: “One of just two teams with six qualified hitters OPS-ing over .800 this year, the Diamondbacks rank seventh in the majors in runs per game (5.02) and have put up fewer than five runs in just one of their past six games.”
