One person was killed and another critically injured after a suspected drive-by shooting in the Mesa area, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting about 11 p.m. Monday, at a home in the area of Crismon Road and Main Street, the Sheriff’s Office said. The area is in an unincorporated county area near Mesa.
Deputies found a woman and man in their 20s had been shot, said Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
The woman was pronounced dead, while the man was transported to a hospital in extremely critical condition, Enriquez said.
Sheriff’s officials still are searching for the shooter or shooters, Enriquez said.
“It is unknown what caused or led to the shooting,” he said.
The Sheriff’s Office believes the shooting occurred in the front yard, he added.
“It’s too early to tell if this is gang related or (if) the suspects knew the victims,” Enriquez said.
