Diamondbacks 6, Brewers 3
At Salt River Fields
On the mound: RHP Taijuan Walker turned in his third consecutive impressive start, this time tossing four scoreless, hitless innings against the Milwaukee Brewers, striking out eight. Walker retired the first 11 batters he faced before walking 3B Travis Shaw. He got 1B Jesus Aguilar to ground out to finish his outing. “My ankle is healthy and I think it’s just confidence with that, being confident in my new mechanics and working on my slider,” Walker said. “Just being confident with everything. That’s the biggest thing right now. I feel good out there.” Walker, whom the Diamondbacks acquired from the Seattle Mariners in November, had 10 bone spurs surgically removed from his ankle at the end of last season. Walker said he felt good with his slider and also threw a handful of curveballs and change-ups. His fastball was sitting 94-96 mph and touched 97.

At the plate: SS Nick Ahmed had a pair of extra-base hits, hooking a double down the left-field line in the fourth inning and shooting a triple over the head of CF Keon Broxton in the fifth. RF Oswaldo Arcia hit his second home run of spring training in the fourth inning, driving a ball out to right-center.

Extra bases: Manager Torey Lovullo was again upset with one of his players for sliding headfirst, this coming two days after OF Socrates Brito needed surgery to repair a dislocated finger injured on a headfirst slide into home. Lovullo sought out 2B Domingo Leyba at the top of the dugout after Leyba slid into first base in the fourth inning. “I just called him aside and just told him I didn’t want to ever see that again,” Lovullo said. “And I told the rest of the dugout, ‘That’s enough. It’s got to stop.’ There’s too many great players that can expose themselves to injury when they’re doing that.”
Saturday’s game: Diamondbacks LHP Robbie Ray vs. Giants (ss) LHP Ty Blach, 1:10 p.m., Salt River Fields.
