The 2017 NHL draft is in Chicago on June 23 and speculation for whom the Coyotes might select continues.
Arizona finished the year with the third-fewest points in the league, but landed the No. 7 overall selection.
Check out who recent mock drafts have the Coyotes selecting in the first round.

mynhldraft.com: Coyotes take Cale Makar, defenseman, Brooks (AJHL)
ISS Hockey writes: “Controls the play when he has the puck. Has the ability to make a great pass or carry the puck.”

NHL POWER RANKINGS: Where did Coyotes end up?
diebytheblade.com: Coyotes select Casey Mittlestadt, center/wing, Green Bay (USHL)
T McGee writes: “The Yotes have a deep pool of young forwards and prospects already: Domi, Duclair, Perlini, Keller, Strome, Dvorak, etc. Honestly, I could see them trade out of this pick if there is a market for it to grab an NHL defenseman. But let’s stick with the pick for now. They have OEL, but he had a down year, and Chychrun, who surprised…but after that there isn’t a lot left. Murphy is solid but replaceable and Goligoski is aging rapidly. Time to reload on the back-end.”
puckprose.com: Coyotes pick Jason Robertson, left wing, Kingston (OHL)
Matt Duscharme writes: “At 6 foot 2 and 195 pounds, Jason Robertson is a highly skilled winger that would help the Coyotes a lot on the left side of the ice. After posting an 81 point season in 68 games, Robertson still has some things to work on but the scoring is there. And with another season or two down in the OHL to strengthen his game away from the puck will benefit the Coyotes big time.”

SB Nation: Coyotes select Makar
Pat Iversen writes: “Julius Honka (soon) and Torey Krug prove that undersized defensemen with elite offensive skills and speed can thrive in today’s NHL. No wonder Makar has skyrocketed up draft rankings. The 5’11 defenseman lit up Canada’s lower junior league with 75 points (24 goals, 51 assists) in 54 games and will skate for UMass Amherst next season. Arizona has stockpiled elite forward talent, and now they can draft a defenseman to distribute the puck to them.”
eyesonisles.com: Coyotes go with Cody Glass, center, Portland Winterhawks
Michael Anderson writes: “The Canadian born center is described as a smart hockey player who can make quick decisions on the fly. In three games at the U18 World Juniors he put up two goals and three points. His 94 points with the Portland Winterhawks certainly jumps off the page as well. A nice find for the Coyotes at seven.”

draftsite.com: Coyotes take Timothy Liljegren, defenseman, Sweden
Bill Placzek writes: “Started the year ranked as a top defenseman prospect based on smooth and mature play from the back end as a puck mover, attacker and PP man, Thick not large, but there is little on the negative side on how well he uses his abilities to defend. A world class skater who has agility mobility and great acceleration, he displays high hockey IQ and reads the ice as well as any NHL defender. Already in the Swedish Elite league and not at all out of place. He really hasn’t gotten any bigger or physically stronger, and that might have him sliding down draft lists from top defenseman in the class to maybe a risky selection early on. He is a strong puck mover who will fearlessly lead the attack as a newbie in the SHL. If he does slide, he may make one NHL team’s scouting staff look like geniuses.”
dobblerprospects.com: Coyotes pick Michael Rasmussen, center, Tri-City (WHL)
It writes: Big, dominating centers don’t grow on trees and the Coyotes can’t resist grabbing Rasmussen. He’ll take a few seasons but an excellent replacement, except more offensively talented, for Martin Hanzal.

nj.com: Coyotes go with Makar
Chris Ryan writes: “Makar posted great offensive numbers for a defenseman, going for 75 points in 54 games for the Books Bandits.”
nhl.com: Coyotes select Rasmussen
Guillaume Lepage writes: “At 6-6, 215, Rasmussen’s size makes him a very attractive prospect, the prototype of a classic NHL power forward. He is able to use his size to put the puck in the net and set up his teammates. He had 55 points (32 goals, 23 assists) in 50 games this season.”

nhl.com: Coyotes take Makar
Mike G. Morreale writes: “The right-shooting Makar (5-11, 180), No. 9 on NHL Central Scouting’s final ranking of North American skaters, had 75 points (24 goals, 51 assists) in 54 games and was named the league’s best defenseman and its most valuable player. He also helped Brooks win the league championship and was named AJHL playoff MVP. He’s committed to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst next season.”
