A woman was killed Saturday night after she was struck by an impaired who then attempted to flee the scene, authorities said. 

At about 9:15 p.m. a three-vehicle collision occurred near Ray and Price frontage roads, said. Lt. Seth Tyler, a Chandler police spokesman. 

A car, driven by 27-year-old Kinton Bruce, had entered the intersection at a high speed, running a red light, Tyler said. One of the vehicle he had struck, was occupied by a woman about 56 to 57-years-old, who was transported to a nearby hospital.

Tyler said she died of her injuries.

During the collision, he said, Bruce’s vehicle rolled several times and he fled the scene. 

He was apprehended about a 1/4 mile away by a witness, and was then administered field sobriety tests by responding officers who immediately saw signs of alcohol impairment, Tyler said. 

Bruce told police he left the scene because he had anxiety after being incident and that he never thought to check on the welfare of the victim. 

Bruce was arrested for DUI and was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on suspicion of manslaughter, hit-and-run and two counts of endangerment.
