A Pima County deputy shot a 19-year-old woman suspected of attacking a 19-year-old man Wednesday morning outside a Burger King in Tucson, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 10 a.m., after a deputy responded to a call at the restaurant, near Ajo Way and Palo Verde Road.

The deputy, identified as Augustine Gonzalez, found a man outside who was fighting with a woman and had been stabbed, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said.

Gonzalez, an 18-year-veteran, shot the woman at least once, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The woman, whom authorities identified as Jenitza Romero, was taken to a hospital and treated for a survivable injury. She was later booked into a Pima County jail on a count of domestic violence attempted murder, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The stabbing victim also was treated at a hospital for survivable injuries and released, officials said.
