azcentral sports’ Mark Faller and Dan Bickley discuss the ASU football coaching search and Cardinals vs. Rams in our Shot Clock video.

Former ASU football player Jake Plummer joined the Brad Cesmat Show on Wednesday to share his thoughts on the state of the ASU football program.

He talked about Todd Graham’s dismissal as coach, potential candidates for the job and more on the show, which is streamed at sports360az.com.

Here are some of the highlights from Plummer’s conversation with Cesmat.

Note: These comments came before news broke that Herm Edwards is the likely choice as ASU’s new football coach, pending President Michael Crow’s OK.

On ESPN analyst Herm Edwards as ASU coach:

“Guy has a ton of energy. He’s a real stand up dude who has a lot of morals and convictions that these guys need.

“Whoever they bring in, I’m going to be a big supporter of.

“I’m there to support what they do.”

On Todd Graham’s firing from ASU:

“It’s hard. We don’t really know if it is a mistake,” Plummer said. “I like having solidarity, having Todd there for 6 years was going through that route.

“I really enjoyed Graham’s energy, I really enjoyed his passion for the game … what he did made ASU a lot better by being there. I truly feel they did an amazing job him and his staff.

“He really made sure those kids carried their selves in the right way to represent Sun Devil Football.

On the expectations of the ASU football program:

“I was a little shocked to see (Todd Graham) let go. With him being let go comes a little bit of excitement, a chance to hit the refresh button.

“There’s no reason ASU shouldn’t be competing every year for that Pac-12 title.

“We want to see the team being included in the College Football Playoff talk as much as possible.”

ASU COACHING SEARCH: What are realistic expectations for Sun Devils?

On Ray Anderson’s decision to fire Todd Graham:

“Graham brought an energy level and an enthusiam to the game and he talked about it. He was guy of many words, but he backed it up this season. It’s hard to understand a coach getting fired after a winning season, but I tip my hand to Ray Anderson for sticking to his guns.”

On recruiting at Arizona State University:

“You don’t have to get every recruit right, but you have to get at least 3-4 every year … you have to get the players that can do the work for you to change the environment on the field.”

On Browns coach Hue Jackson, his former QB coach at ASU:

“He did a lot for my advancement and evolution as a quarterback.

“I have a close relationship with Coach Jackson. If he were to come into the mix, of course I would lend my support to him.

“If I was him I would be wanting to get out of Cleveland.”

On Memphis’ Mike Norvell (a former ASU assistant) as a candidate?

“I believe Mike Norvell should be a candidate for sure, he’s a bright young coach.”

On the new coach keeping Todd Graham’s coaching staff:

“It’s hard to let go of a coach like (Billy) Napier. I think he’s a really bright young offensive mind.

“The battle of egos is going to have to be worked out between Ray and whoever (the new coach is).”

On his availability to help the ASU football program:

“If Ray (Anderson) reaches out to me and needs me for anything I’m always here. I’m always here to help my Sun Devils.”
