Phoenix Police are investigating a wall of offensive graffiti painted at Pinnacle High School Friday night.
Phoenix police are investigating a wall of graffiti painted overnight at Pinnacle High School that included multiple swastikas in different colors, as well as the words “White Power” and other words.
Much of the graffiti was on an exterior wall of the auditorium. A swastika was also painted on a nearby pillar. The paint was discovered by staff and students early Saturday morning.
“Pinnacle High School made arrangements to take it down and paint over it so I assume by now it is gone,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said late Saturday morning.
The Phoenix Police Bias Crimes and Graffiti Detail are currently investigating the crime, Fortune said.
The Arizona chapter of the Anti-Defamation League also reported the graffiti to police.
Pinnacle High is in the Paradise Valley Unified School District. District Communications Specialist Becky Kelbaugh said via email that they take all such incidents seriously.
“PV Schools does not tolerate this type of behavior,” she said.
She said district officials are working with police on the matter. A letter sent to parents from school principal Chad Lanese included similar information.
“We were notified this morning that Pinnacle High School was vandalized with racist symbolism and wording,” Kelbaugh said. “The Phoenix Police Department was immediately contacted, and our Facilities Department is onsite cleaning up the vandalism.”
She asked anyone with information to call police at 602-262-6151.
