A family argument turned deadly early Thursday morning when a 60-year-old man was shot and killed in a gated community near Chandler Heights and Gilbert Road, police say.

A man who claimed to be the victim’s brother-in-law called 911 to report that he shot the victim.

“We’re not sure if he is indeed the shooter or not,” Chandler police detective Seth Tyler said.

The man called and tried to revive the victim through CPR, but when police responded to the 8 a.m. call, the man had died at the scene.

Police aren’t sure why the family was arguing, but they confirmed that three people were involved: a husband, a wife and the professed shooter. Nobody’s been arrested yet, but detectives are interviewing a man and a woman who were in the house and are checking the residence for clues.

“We know that there was an argument, and at some point, it elevated into a physical altercation,” Tyler said. Weapons came into play, including a firearm. Police also found a baseball bat on the scene.

“We’re not sure what led to the argument, and, of course, we’re not sure what led for the argument rising to the level that it led to,” Tyler said.

The investigation is ongoing.

“We’re waiting for detectives to get more information on the male and female, and they’re gathering information on scene,” Tyler explained.
