A man and woman were arrested Thursday after a 10-year-old boy was found not breathing, with burns and bruises all over his body, according to Chino Valley police.

The boy appeared to have been bound and restrained, according to a Chino Valley police statement.

About 2:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a 10-year-old boy who was found not breathing, police said in the statement.

The Chino Valley Police Department, Life Line Ambulance and Central Arizona and Medical Authority personnel arrived at the house, on the 1200 block of Poco Lane.

The boy had second- and third-degree burns and bruises on his back, torso, limbs, neck and head, the media release said.

Evidence police found suggested the child’s injuries happened at the residence, where he was “bound and restrained and unable to protect himself or flee,” police said.

He was flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where he remained in extremely critical condition, police said.

Police said Daniel Terry, 36, and his girlfriend, Julianna Moreno, 34, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated assault and child abuse.

The investigation was still in its early stages, police said.

Chino Valley is about 110 miles north of Phoenix in Yavapai County.
