An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after his 17-year-old house guest was shot and killed, Phoenix police said Thursday night.

A neighbor called 911 at about 5:45 a.m. after James Lee showed up at the door visibly shaken and carrying a gun, police spokesman Sgt. Vince Lewis said.

Lewis said Lee put down the weapon and waited with his neighbor for police to arrive.

Inside Lee’s home near 28th Street and Cactus Road, officers found the teenager dead with at least one gunshot wound, Lewis said.

Lee was taken in for questioning and subsequently arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, Phoenix police said late Thursday.

The victim’s name was not released, pending family notification, police said.

The teen had been staying with Lee, Lewis said.
