A 17-year-old boy died after an accidental shooting in Tucson, said Daniel Jelineo, Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson.
Luis Angel Lopez Jr. was fatally struck Friday afternoon by an AK-47 round, which was accidentally discharged by 19-year-old Raymundo Lopez-Casillas III inside a home in the 8000 block of North Country Home Lane in northwest Tucson, Jelineo said.
When detectives started their investigation, they found suspected explosive devices inside the home and quickly backed out, Jelineo said.
The Pima Regional Bomb Squad and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were contacted to identify and safely remove the items from the home, Jelineo said. BATFE personnel safely removed and disposed of an AK-47, numerous homemade pipe bombs and other weapons.
When detectives returned to the scene, they contacted the Pima County Attorney’s Office, which arrived at the location and determined Casillas would not be charged with the shooting at this time, Jelineo said.
The investigation is ongoing, Jelineo said.
