A 16-year-old boy was shot and injured in Tolleson on Saturday night, sheriff’s officials said.

Police responded about 8 p.m. to the 10900 block of West Miami Street, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

“When deputies arrived, they discovered a 16-year-old juvenile with a gunshot wound,” MCSO Sgt. Bryant Vanegas said in an email.

The boy was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was “conscious and alert, speaking to deputies before transport,” according to Vanegas.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
