Fire crews responded to the near drownings of two children in Mesa and Peoria family swimming pools on Wednesday evening, officials said. 

In Peoria, family members found their toddler at the bottom of a pool, according to the Peoria Fire-Medical Department.

When fire officials arrived at the scene, the family had already pulled the child from the pool and performed CPR, fire officials said. 

The child woke up but was not responsive. The child was then transported to Banner Thunderbird Medical Center.

In Mesa, fire crews responded to the drowning of a 2-year-old who was also discovered at the bottom of a pool, according to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, they performed CPR and intubation, fire officials said.

The child was attempting to breathe but was transported to the hospital.The child later died, according to the Mesa Police Department. The homicide unit is investigating, police said.
