A man shot at a Peoria apartment complex Friday night was transported to a hospital with critical injuries, police said.

The shooting occurred about 8:40 p.m. after an argument, and the gunman and the victim were believed to know each other, according to Officer Brandon Sheffert, Peoria police spokesman.

The shooting occurred in an apartment complex near 85th and Peoria avenues, and the wounded man walked out to 85th Avenue, where he found help, Sheffert said.

Sheffert described the shooting victim as about 40 years old.

The gunman was described as a middle-aged black man with a heavy build, between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet 4 inches tall, wearing all-black clothing and a baseball cap, Sheffert said.

The Police Department’s SWAT team was going door to door to check apartments at the complex, Sheffert said.
