One child has died and another is in the hospital after a truck hit a car into a family of five on Wednesday morning in the parking lot of a Walmart Supercenter in north Glendale, according to police officials.

Glendale police and fire crews arrived at the store near 56th and Northern avenues and found a family of three adults and two children who had been hit by a vehicle.

A 68-year-old woman was driving her pickup truck into a parking spot when she bumped a parked car in front of her. The car was pushed onto the sidewalk and struck the family, pinning a 4-year-old girl under it, city spokesperson Jose Santiago said.

Paramedics arrived and transported the 4-year-old to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 4-year-old died from her injuries. Her 3-year-old brother is currently in the hospital with injuries that are not life threatening.

Of the three adults, the children’s mother was hospitalized with injuries that are not life threatening. The children’s grandmother was treated at the scene and an aunt was not injured.

Glendale police said the driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with officers.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor but is being investigated as standard procedure, police said.

Charges are possibly pending, Santiago said.
